The Rug Hooking School Committee is pleased to announce the courses
and dates for the 2014 Spring Rug School to be held at Mount Saint
Vincent University, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Eight courses plus On Your Own
are being offered.
Course descriptions follow with a brief Teacher biography. Please
read the information before completing the application form and consider
your alternate choices carefully. Should none of your choices be
available, you will be contacted by the Registrar to see if you might
consider joining a class not yet filled. You will receive a letter of
confirmation plus all other school information in late February.
Please note — Membership to the RHGNS is
required to go to the Spring Rug School. Membership runs from Oct 1,
2013 to the end of Sept 2014. As applications will be received as of Nov
1, 2013, please have your new membership before you apply for Rug
Hooking School.

ODE TO RUG SCHOOL
(sung to the tune of Squid Jiggin’ Grounds)
O, this is the place where the hookers are meeting
With scissors and mat frames there’s fun in the air
We’re getting together for fun, food, and laughter
As we gather again for rug school this year.
We’re here from the East Coast, and here from the West Coast,
From South Coast and Central, and further away,
With old friends and new ones from our own great big country
As well as some hookers from the U S of A.
We’ll learn new techniques and improve on some others,
We’ll share our ideas and make up new plans,
It’s always a pleasure to spend time together
As we work on our projects with hooks in our hands.
When school is all over, it’s time to go home
We’ll get on the road with a heartfelt goodbye.
We all drive away in different directions
And work on our hooking for next year’s display.

Doris Norman Bio
Doris is a skilled artisan and instructor who teaches rug-hooking courses and workshops across the United States and Canada. She is an accredited Nova Scotia and Pearl McGown teacher, specializing in Celtic Art, William Morris, Jacobean, Pictorial, Stained Glass, Primitive Fruit and Shading. Her work has been featured in Canadian Living Magazine, Rug Hooking Magazine and is included in the Beaverbrook Art Gallery’s Permanent collection as well as many private collections. Doris has taught at Nova Scotia schools for many years as well as the Prairie Harvest school, Newfoundland and Labrador school, Hooked in the Mountains, and Friends by the Sea in Oregon.
